The official launch of 6G research has been initiated, and the standard will be implemented in 2029.

According to the latest research by Juniper Research, the revenue that global operators earn from billing transactions is projected to increase from $9.3 billion in 2024 to nearly $15 billion in 2029, representing a growth rate of 59%.

This growth is mainly attributed to the enhanced awareness among consumers of this payment method and the promotion of standardized APIs (Application Programming Interfaces).

Operator billing, as a mobile payment method, enables users to make purchases directly through their mobile phone bills.

The report suggests that mobile network operators should adopt standardized APIs, including operator billing checkout APIs, which will help shorten product launch times, enhance business scalability, and ensure compliance with strict payment regulations. Through this standardization, the position and influence of mobile network operators in the digital payment ecosystem will be strengthened.

Furthermore, standardized APIs will reduce the reliance of mobile network operators on third-party aggregators, thereby increasing their share of billing transaction revenue.

Elisha Sudlow-Poole, the author of the research report, said: "Over the past decade, mobile network services such as voice, messaging, and data have gradually become commoditized, leading to a significant loss of revenue for operators. Operator billing offers mobile network operators the opportunity to act as third-party service distributors and payment facilitators, helping to diversify their revenue sources. The advancement of standardization will accelerate the adoption of operator billing and make it a viable alternative to competitive digital payment methods."
